Johnny Kampis's book details high-stakes gambling

Twice Johnny Kampis played his way to the World Series of Poker, gambling with the big boys and girls in Las Vegas, in trips a decade apart. Over those 10 years, wheels spun. In 2006, Kampis had been working as a journalist and blogger, writing for The Tuscaloosa News from 2000-05, including a regular column on poker, Deal Me In. He was single and unfettered, and earned his stake and spot in Vegas through online poker. He planned to write a book about traveling the tournament trail, about a serious though only semi-pro player working his way west, toward the top.
