MONTEAU & PEEBLES, L.L.C. PRESS
RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 12-13-01
OMAHA-NE:
In this season of giving, we at Monteau & Peebles believe it is
important to show the Indian way of Christmas. Our people have
always been willing to share with others when we had more than enough.
Right now, we believe it is time for everyone in Indian Country to come to
the assistance of the Santee Sioux Tribe.
Santee Sioux has been unfairly targeted, and unfairly singled out by the
United States government, and the government of the State of Nebraska for
operating a gaming facility to provide jobs and a meager living for their
members. They have seen their assets attached, and their abilities
to provide for their people taken away. We at Monteau & Peebles
are pleased to have played a part in the recent victory in Federal Court.
Unfortunately, this victory does not make up for six years of frozen bank
accounts and unjust treatment. This victory, while important does
not make up for empty coffers, and it does not provide for the people of
the Santee Sioux Nation.
Monteau & Peebles has decided to contribute $50,000 toward the
Tribe’s litigation fees. We hope others in Indian Country will
step up in the true spirit of the season, and help the Santee Sioux Tribe
and its members enjoy their victory over injustice with a festive Holiday
season. |
